WLC 400: WLC Major Capstone (Spring 2014)
Course Description:
Students work with the instructor and WLC faculty advisors to research, synthesize, write and present their Capstone projects. Students will also assemble a Graduation Portfolio reflecting how each MLO was met. This course is required for all Japanese, Spanish and World Languages and Cultures majors.
Reflective Narrative:
This course was the final step to completing our capstone projects and was designed for both Japanese and Spanish majors. Similar to JAPN 404, we spent the class researching our chosen thesis topics and collecting data. This class fulfills MLO 4, as we spent a great deal of time doing research and learning to use technology to present our ideas. We learned how to do research effectively in order to complete our review of literature, and discovered which search engines were best for our chosen topics. Also, we learned how to make a Google Form for our surveys which we used to collect data in order to answer our research questions. This was very helpful to me, as it was my first time making a Google Form, and the tips we learned in class were very useful. Once the data was collected, we then analyzed it and created a final PowerPoint presentation that combined all of our research and findings. In class we learned tips and tricks to make an appealing presentation, such as appropriate color scheme and font size. We also used Excel in order to create graphs to present the data we collected.
This class truly facilitated my research, and being able to present our ideas to our classmates allowed us all to receive constructive feedback on our projects. Furthermore, our advisors spent lots of time and effort guiding us and making sure our projects were going in the right direction. Through the support and knowledge I received in WLC 400, I was able to complete my capstone project and give a successful presentation of my thesis.
